Saif Ali Khan and Navdeep Singh's Laal Kaptaan is bizarre and a poor film that has nothing substantial to offer the audience in general. Saif Ali Khan's character like others too is missing a layer. While there are some action sequences that hold your attention the violence in some scenes is stomach churning. Despite the fearless flourishes of Saif Laal Kaptaan comes out with flying colours too rarey.Overaal it's not just worth to watch.
A naga sadhu Gossain (Saif Ali Khan) is out on a journey to wreak vengeance on his arch enemy Rehmat Khan (Manav Vij). A mysterious, veiled woman (Sonakshi Sinha in a guest appearance), hiding a scarred cheek behind it, adds to the inscrutable evil of Rehmat with her story about him. More evidence of his perversities follows with a widow (Zoya Hussain) joining Gossain in his journey.
Laal Kaptaan has a bunch of creative people to lend their name. It’s the story of a lone warrior, played with intensity by Saif Ali Khan, in pursuit of his revenge. In the process, the the already red earth of Bundelkhand turns deep scarlet with the blood strewn around. You stop counting the deaths/murders happening at frequent intervals of this 2 hrs 30 minutes run film. While it is a tedious journey for the eponymous hero through the arid badlands of central India of 18th century, for us it’s a tussle to make sense of the proceedings with dearth of enlightening dialogue as well. As a whole, the story meanders it’s way to the known conclusion taxing our patience as well... Technical brilliance is on display, panoramic watch on big screen and yes, we have Saif who is trying hard. But these are small mercies in this outlandish endeavour. Alas, this ‘Kaptaan’ in all probability will bleed in the box office - yet another dud from the talented actor. Of course he may be driven by the desire to do such quirky roles rather than mainstream sure shots.
Saif Ali Khan plays the role of Gusain, a Naga sadhu,an assassin to be precise,in Navdeep Singh's ambitious Lal kaptaan. And the actor sinks his teeth into the character from the first scene.Navdeep Singh frankly, paints a very realistic picture of 18th century India.
Lal kaptaan is the story of a naga sadhu from india who sets out a journey across Bundelkhand to seek revenge for an old score to settle. Gossain in search of Rehmat khan, who is brutal and slashing throats without a second thought. And how Gossain caught Rehmat Khan forms the rest of the story. The movie was made with an attempt to make a look like a Hollywood movie by involving horses, guns but how ever the movie was bit lengthy which made it a bit boring and the same could be trimmed and made a wonder with the available options. The movie contains the moments that hooks and shocks the audience along with the boring scenes. The sub plots in the movie come and go in a blink of an eye which makes it more troublesome for audience to keep involved in the movie.
Set in 18th century Civil War between the Maratha, Mughals, British East India Company and Princely States. A Naga sadhu in India sets out on a journey across Bundelkhand to seek revenge for an injustice committed in the past. This movie is an art of fine cinema making, brilliant screenplay and acting by Saif Ali Khan and Manav Vij. This movie is dark and brutal definitely for audience who understands meaningful cinema not for all masses. Revenge story are always entertaining so is this movie.
